Black screen

Questions about computer monitors and laptop screens.

Black screen

I have a problem with my monitor ,its black area appearing on status bar at screen,sometimes half of the screen get black,could u please tell me ,what kind of problem it is,either CRT getting old or any other problem,

it would be good if u reply.

It's possible the CRT (the tube itself) is not getting enough power either due to a problem with the monitor's voltage regulator or due to faulty capacitors.

Try adjusting the size of the picture via the monitor's controls. If that doesn't work, it may be time to get a new monitor. It can probably still be fixed, but with LCD monitors getting cheaper and CRT monitors being even more cheaper the LCDs (and second hand CRTs being practically given away as far as price is concerned) it may be less aggravating to just replace it.

Some monitors have adjustable internal dials for adjusting the picture inside the monitor's cabinet. It's not really recommended that you fiddle with them if you aren't familiar with the insides of a monitor, since some parts may hold high voltages even if the monitor is powered off and unplugged. If you know your way inside monitors, you can try that.
