boot up

Re: boot upAs you replaced the drive, i think the next logical step would to look into the motherboard.
Are you able to boot up the computer and go into bios?
Re: boot upSince there is a "whrrring" sound, I would guess that the impact must have dislodged a mechanical part in your PC which prevents it from booting up, most likely a fan of some sort or a drive. The power supply, has a fan, so does the CPU, and maybe even the video card. You can check to see if these components are still correctly attached and the fans working, since easily any of them can prevent the PC from booting up if they aren't installed properly. Some CPUs can burn up within seconds if powered on without a fan, so check it out.
The only other mechanical components are the optical, floppy and hard disk drives. It may be a good idea to check out their connections as well. Check the memory DIMMs as well, a dislodged one can prevent booting up as well. A crack, or a broken capacitor or resistor in the wrong place and the motherboard will fail to function as well. If it were my PC which was dropped, to be sure I would probably take it apart and put it back again to see what part/s were damaged if any, but that's just me. If it still doesn't boot up, maybe you can unplug everything from the board, leaving only the CPU, memory and video card (and monitor) and see if the motherboard powers up and shows the startup screen. If it doesn't, you may need to replace it. Hope this helps.
