Bootup Problemrunning 2000 pro, I can not boot from HD, without using my boot up diskette. How can I fix, the boot sector. I am not very computer knowledgeable. Please be simple. RD
Re: Bootup ProblemUse the recovery console option when you boot your computer or from you windows 2000 install disk.
And at the command prompt type " fixboot c: " without the " if c: is your hard drive you want to boot from. You can also try to type " fixmbr c: " without the " and if c: is your hard drive. WARNING: This command has the potential to damage your partition tables if a virus is present or a hardware problem exists. This command may lead to inaccessible partitions. Microsoft suggests running antivirus software before using this command.
Re: Bootup ProblemTHANKS FOR THE REPLY, BUT IT WILL NOT WORK BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THE DISK. ONLY WINDOW ON HARD DRIVE AND THE DISKETTE. TRIED THE FIX MBR, SAME PROBLEM AFTER FIX. THANKS RD
Re: Bootup Problemmy gateway is not bootin up. when i turn on the power button i hear 3 beepin sound right after each other and then the fan just runs. the monitor doesn't comes on but the cpu is on. what can the problem be?
Re: Bootup ProblemWhat model is your gateway or do you know what bios it use? Look for the bios logo when it boots up if you see any small picture other than gateway. The beeps means diffrent things on different bios models, thats why i am asking.
Re: Bootup Problemmy gateway is a E - 4500D model. im not getting a connection to the monitor. the cpu is on but it doesnt boot up. i've tried 3 monitors.
Re: Bootup ProblemThe three beeps indicate you have a hardware fault somewhere. The number and lengths of the beeps mean different things for different motherboard makers, but you can check the following items if you're comfortable cracking open your PC's case:
- check the memory DIMMs if they're all seated properly, you may even consider switching them around if you have more than one DIMM, or using another DIMM slot if you only have one stick of memory. You can also try removing them one at a time and powering up to see if it boots. A lot of times boot-up problems can be traced to faulty memory. - check if the expansion cards are all seated properly (PCI, PCIe, AGP, etc.) - this is to my mind the most likely suspect, since you're not getting anything on your display/s - your video card is not well seated, or if it's a high end card, the auxiliary power cable may be loose or disconnected. Seen this happen fairly often as well. - while you're at it, you may want to see if the drives (optical/hard) are connected properly (data and power cables). - also check if the fans are connected and working properly, especially the one on the CPU. I'm sorry I can't suggest anything simpler, what you have is more than likely a hardware problem, and you probably have to get your hands dirty and get inside your PC to find a solution.
Re: Bootup Problemthanks alot for your help. i figured out the problem. the memory card was faulty. i changed out one of the cards and it came right on working like new. thanks again for your help.
