computer registry cleaning

Postby LucasCat on Fri Jul 16, 2010 6:22 am

I have just gotten a free scan from REGZOOKA. It said it found 469 threats or problems on my computer.

I have a hp Pavillion a000. It was purchased in 2005. It has an athlon processor and I run MS 2003 software on an Windows XP system.

Years ago, I had SpyBot and I cleaned the wrong things out of my registry unless I was just removing what I did not know was some needed software or was in somewhere else and trying to remove something that might have been called Python :?: or something similar that was a needed active X :? or something that sounded like a virus to me  .

If I supposedly have that many threats, where would I go to know which things to remove, ignore or what? Could I actually hurt my computer by cleaning everything that is supposedly a problem? :?

I only wish for my com-pooper to compoopilate properly. I get too many error messages for this not to be a large problem. One scanning said I only had 169, another said 63 my AVG free only found 51 and cleaned 51. Is REGZOOKA the best SpyWare, Virus detector on the market? What could I get that was a low cost option that was the best that would actually be on top of that many errors, if there truly are that many to worry about... :| :?

There is no best product on the market for what you are suggesting. I would say stay away from registry cleaners if you do not know exactly what to do with them as they will destroy more than help.

I would use AVG Free or any program similar to it to clean your computer as much as possible without destroying your registry by removing too much.

I would personally make a backup of all my important files on a USB stick and completely reinstall the operating system. Then everything will work perfectly like your computer was new. You will often get system operating restore cd's or partitions on your harddisk that will do the job for you. Just remember to backup your important files, such as emails, documents and photos.
