Computer sending emails without my authorization

I received an email with a link for a Canadian Pharmaceutical Site from someone I know. They didn't send it to me. Then my email sent the same kind of email to people in my contact list, even though I didn't sent it. I received a couple but nothing happened to my computer. Same with 6 friends I spoke to that received them. and even clicked on link. What is this? Is this a virus (my antivirus didn't show that it quarantined anything) and could it crash someone's computer even though it didn't crash mine or the other people I spoke to? Thank you

That is a virus doing that. Install / update your antivirus program on your computer. I recommend AVG Free, you can search for that on google.
