Computer stops momentarly

Postby Jimmy Daughtridge on Wed Feb 04, 2009 9:39 pm

Computer stops operating for approx. 40 seconds then operates for approx 40 seconds then stops for 40 seconds etc.
Some times computer works okay. Other startups this condition is present.
Computer is Compaq Model 7598 operating Microsoft XP. Is this a software problem or a hardware problem? Is there any setting I can change to solve problem?

Do you remember when it started doing this for you? Did you do anything to the computer at that time?

Anyway, sounds like you have a bad driver, a faulty usb device etc or you have malware on your computer.

What I would do first is to get an anti virus installed (like Norton Antivirus, NOD32 or McAffe) and run an anti spyware / malware remover (you can Adaware at http://www.lavasoft.com/single/trialpay.php select the free edition).

Second, update any drivers you might have that are updated. Go to the Compaq site and find the driver download section, type in / select the model name of your Compaq when it asks for it.

Third, if you still have problems, remove any USB devices or any other perhipials from you computer and see if the problems stops.
