Disk Drive malfunction

I have a dell computer. My disk drive keeps opening and closing over and over again by itself. What can I do to stop it?

Can you give some more details? Are you referring to the hard drive, optical drive (CD/DVD) or floppy drive?

When you say opening and closing all over again, do you mean that a windows keeps opening and closing on the desktop, the access light keeps blinking on and off, or the optical drive door keeps sliding open and sliding shut?

I suspect you're referring to your optical drive, since I've heard about it happening to other optical drives before, but I'm not really sure from your description. If you are, it's pretty much likely an electrical or mechanical fault with the drive itself.

First check the eject button, make sure it isn't jammed in. Press it a couple of times to see if it helps.

Try putting a disc inside the drive (something not important, something you can afford to lose, you never know). If the drive spins up the disc, it'll probably stop the drive from opening. This is a temporary solution of course, it doesn't really fix the problem, it just stops the opening/closing.

You can try disconnecting all the cables on the drive (power, IDE/SATA, audio) and reconnecting everything to see if it stops the opening/closing. It's remotely possible there may be a ground somewhere in the drive causing it to open/close continuously.

If it doesn't stop, more than likely your drive has gone south. There are ways to fix it if you are technically inclined and you're not afraid of removing the optical drive from your PC and opening it up, but optical drives are quite cheap nowadays, it may be more convenient to just replace it.

If it's under warranty, I'd suggest you skip all of the above and turn it in.
