don't know anything about computers!

I have a compaq presario 2002 256 mb windows xp. I have programs at the bottom of the screen that I cannot close? If I open the folders and try to x them or close them nothing happens? Please help

Try accessing the Task Manager via CTRL-ALT-DEL.

Go to the Applications tab, select the application you want to close, and select End Now.

You can also try a reboot.

rebooted many times...does not work. The only programs that are open tabs at the bottom and will not close are -my documents,my computer.

I would suggest running a registry cleaner program. Your computer's registry may have a lot of invalid entries, causing the problems you describe.

hold down control ,alt and delete keys at the same time and you will get a task manager box to appear. Look in the applications area and if anything is there just click on end task to stop the prgrams from running. Once all programs are stopped you will be taken back to your desktop. Hope this helps.
