hard driveI did not know where to start as far as topic goes. I have a old hp pavilion 510n. it was sitting in my moms garage for a few yrs. I went to start it up the other day and while it was booting up the power cord fell off the wall socket. now it does not want to boot up. this computer has a refresh program that rstarts the computer as if new but it goes through all of the steps then nothing. what is up with this
Re: hard driveMaybe the data on the hard drive has been corrupted by the sudden loss of power.
If you plan on using it the computer again, it may be a good idea to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. I'm not sure if the "refresh program" you're referring to is the recovery CD that is usually supplied with a PC when new, but if it is, the usual practice is to boot from the recovery CD and follow all the instructions which basically wipes the hard drive clean and installs a fresh copy of the operating system. If this is indeed what you've done, you may need to be more specific with what you mean by "nothing". Do you mean a totally dead PC, or a PC that just doesn't want to boot up? If it's dead, it could be a hardware fault of some kind. If the PC powers up, but just doesn't boot, it's possible that the problem may lie with the OS installation, or perhaps an incorrect BIOS setting, maybe the boot order setting. Perhaps you can describe the problem in more detail, so we can come up with more substantial recommendations.
