How much memory do you have? Install more memory if you can, it will help speed things up immediately, you can go out and buy a few gigabytes for your computer for just $40. That is one of the cheapest upgrades when it comes to speed up your computer.
You can also try to run defrag on your computer and uninstall any programs you do not use. Remember that some programs run in the background and take up resources. That is why your computer gets slower and slower.
There are several tweak programs out there, but i would actually not recommend any of them. They claim to clean your registry etc. But in most cases they destory more than they help.
Best way to get your computer running faster, would be to reinstall your OS from scratch, and to keep up with the speed, install more memory ($40). You should also considering upgrading your whole system as Windows 2000 is very outdated today and Microsoft does not support it anymore. Upgrade to Windows XP or Vista. But remember, they will require more resources than your current computer.
