IP Adress Security Issues

Postby KelliNicole on Mon Dec 08, 2008 5:49 am

Hi,
I recently allowed someone to access my ip address "so they could use their laptop" when at my house. I am not certain that it was the only reason he wanted to access my computer. What other info can he gain from having my IP and where can he use it..ex: can it get him into my email or other personal info?

thanks,

Kelli

Just having your ip in itself is not a major threat, but if he is able to access your computer remotely with remote assistance for example then you will have a problem. Make sure you have a router at home with a firewall and make sure you do not allow anyone you do not trust to access your ip that is behind the router (your internal ip).
