low disc space issue
2 posts • Page 1 of 1
low disc space issueI have an HP Compaq Presario SR1913WM Media Center computer running windows XP/sp3. I keep getting the low disc space message all the time. I've ran the disk cleanup, manually removed almost everything I've downloaded plus a lot that came with the computer that I don't use. The hard drive on here is: 120GB SATA 3G (3.0Gb/sec. 7200 rpm.) . A AMD Athlom 64 processor 3500+. Showed 2.20 GHz 1.93 GB ram yesterday. Today it has 991 MHz 1.93 GB of ram. My C:\ drive is still showing full. I thought it was low on memory, so I added 2- 512 memory sticks in. Found that wasn't it. Please help if possible.
Re: low disc space issueIf you don't regain hard disk space even after deleting lots of files, you may have overlooked emptying the recycle bin. All of the files you've deleted may still be in the recycle bin, hence no change in the available disk space.
An Athlon 64 3500+ runs at 2.2 GHz. You apparently have 2 GB of RAM. It is normal for your processor to downclock itself to 990 MHz when there is low CPU use, in order to conserve energy and to reduce heat, this feature is known as "Cool N' Quiet". When you run a CPU intensive program, the processor will jump back to full speed. If you need to free up as much space on your hard drive as possible, go to Control Panel - Add Remove Programs and uninstall the programs which you don't use.
