motherboard requirementsI found out that I have to replace my motherboard. are the boards a standard size? what else do I need to know before purchasing and installing one. I have a dell optiplex gx620 Thanks
Re: motherboard requirementsMost boards are standard size, but there is a few differences. Like ATX, mini-ATX etc. Also be aware that if you install a new motherboard, you need to reinstall your operating system.
Also be aware that manufacturers like Dell can have odd size motherboards as they are made especially for their products. Doing some research it sounds like your computer have a small form factor motherboard (SFF). A little smaller than regular ATX, that can be a problem looking for a motherboard that will fit in your computer case.
Re: motherboard requirementsthanks for responding to my questions, since I am a newbie involving computers. I will be doing a little more research on the matter. are lap tops simular to repair? or is that a completely new ball park? thanks again
Re: motherboard requirementsLaptops are much harder to repair as most components are made for that model only. Thus finding spare parts can be hard. And they are not just plug and play. Sometimes you need to solder to replace parts in a laptop.
Software issues are the same as regular desktops though.
