MSI On board Video issue

Postby Greatgranny on Sun May 09, 2010 3:51 am

I have an MS-7191 motherboard (msi rs482m4)(939 AMD processor) the on board video card is dying (vibrating and getting worse). I have the PCIe slot and two straight PCI slots. I have plenty of PCI video cards (no pcie) and have tried anywhere from 1mb to 64mb (the only PCI ones I have), and the machine will run for a while and then lock up. I have disabled the on board via the device manager, can't really see a way in BIOS to disable, and still it locks up. Usually locks up after about two to three minutes. I am going to go and purchase a pcie board, but I am not sure if that is the solution.

Has anyone hit this kind of problem, if so what was your solution. I don't want to purchase the card if I should replace the motherboard instead. There is no other issues with the motherboard that I can tell.

Thanks for the help.

If the computer locks up after trying several cards, i would bet the common factor would be the motherboard or anything else related to it. It would probable not be your pci cards, as you have tried several of them.

What do you mean its vibrating? If you mean the picture while its displayed, then the video card is bad. However, if the card is integrated onto the motherboard (not removable or replaceable), then you potentially have a failing motherboard.

While a replacement card might help in the short run, once integrated componants start to fail, its only a matter of time before the motherboard itself gives up the ghost.

With the locking up issues, the video cards you might be putting in there could be incompatable or non-functional. Socket 939 is pretty dated these days, so getting a replacement might be tough or impossible.
