pc message pop-up

Postby Yolie on Fri Apr 17, 2009 12:24 am

I have Windows XP PC and whenever I 'm on the Internet lately , I keep getting message " 16 Bit MS DOS Subsystem C\Windows\Sysvxd.exe. the NTVDM CPU has encountered a illegal instruction. Hit close to terminate the application." How can or what can I do to stop this from happening? Thanks Yolie

I'm fairly certain your PC has been infected by malware, most likely a trojan of some sort.

I'd suggest you'd run a malware removal program and scan your entire PC.

If you don't have a malware removal program, you can download for free Spybot - Search and Destroy from here:

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

or you can use a-squared Free, you can download it from here:

http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/.

I would recommend a thorough anti-virus scan as well, if you already have one, make sure it's updated, and scan your entire PC.

If not, you can try using avast! Home Edition (again, it's free):

http://www.avast.com/

or Avira AntiVir Personal (free again):

http://www.free-av.com/en/download/index.html.

If you have your own preferences for antivirus or anti-malware software, then stick with it, just make sure it's properly updated, otherwise it would be useless.

With so many viruses (viri?) and trojans on the internet nowadays, and with so many choices for anti-virus and anti-malware programs, many of which are free for personal use, it is unacceptable to have sub-standard protection or worse, no protection at all from these kind of threats.

Good luck, I hope this helps.
