pc won't turn on

Postby dontknow on Wed Dec 09, 2009 7:04 am

Hi,
I have run into a terribly big problem . My pc won't turn on. I have opened the case and the motherboard has its light on. And the Keyboard and the Mouse are receiving the power as well. But the it still won't turn on. I have tried to short the circuit for the on/off switches on the motherboard too but nothing happens.
Can you please save me the trip to workshop?

I would try the trial an error approach, disconnecting module/component/card after another to see if the fans go on. But first i would try to reseat everything in case something got loose inside your computer.

Do not reseat the processor though as you will make the thermal paste that is between the cpu fan and the processor most likely crumble and you would end up with cleaning off the old thermal paste and put some new in.

Try to unplug the power cord from the outlet in the wall for 15 minutes and then plug it in again. Sometimes that actually helps :)

Make sure your computer is not connected to the grid before you open your computer case. It can be dangerous both for you and the computer.

Maybe it would be easier to turn it into the shop for a quick diagnosis after all :)
