Question about reinstalling system

Hello,
I have a dispute with a computer repair place that worked on my computer. They had my computer for 20 days and I repeatedly called to find out if they had diagnosted the problem and each time they would say no and that they were continuing to try. The only problem it had when I took it in was that the keyboard wouldn't work and the plug in the back seemed loose. The technician, in front of me, opened up the case and took a screwdriver to the unit and when he put the case back on the computer wouldn't even boot up. Needless to say, I left it with them since I felt that it had been working just moments earlier and it was now up to them to figure out what had happened. Finally, when they called me around 6/8 they said that they had been unable to diagnose what the problem was and that they had gone ahead and wiped the entire hard drive clean and had been unable to save my photos and documents. I picked up the unit, brought it home and immediately looked at the recently installed dates under Control Panel. I had left the computer with them on 5/19/2010 however the following day on 5/20 it shows that programs like Rhapsody, Realplayer, My HP Games, Photosmart Essentials and Activation assistant for 2007 Microsoft Office suite were installed. Twenty days later when I am repeatedly calling about my computer they are telling me though that they can't figure out what is wrong with it and that it still won't boot up properly, etc. Am I wrong that if they had wiped my hard drive clean and reinstalled Vista and Microsoft Office on 6/9 that it would show that as the date for those installations because those programs that they installed on 5/20 would have had to be reinstalled again after the hard drive had been wiped clean. Also aren't programs like Rhapsody and Realplayer "fun" programs that wouldn't be able to be installed on a computer that literally had to be wiped clean in order to even make it operate properly. It just appears to me that within 48 hours of having my computer that they were playing music and games on my computer and then billed me for the time they spent playing with it.
