screen comes on then goes blank

Questions about computer monitors and laptop screens.

screen comes on then goes blank

Postby sunnyd1102 on Sun Nov 30, 2008 9:43 am

I have a dell desktop and my monitor goes blank within seconds of turning it on. It will come on when I turn it on but goes blank within seconds. I disconnected it from the pc and it does the same thing so I do not believe it is the pc.Help! how can I fix this?

The monitor does not get a signal from your graphics card.

Check your monitor cable so there is no loose connections.

If you have several graphics outputs on your graphics card, try them all. Same goes with the monitor, if you have several inputs try them all as well.

Finally,

Try to reseat your graphics card by opening up your pc and take out the graphics card and put it back in, or put it in another spot.

Try to use a different screen, if the same problem occurs, it is definately a problem with your graphics card.

To make sure it is your graphics card that is broken, try to replace the graphics card with another one and see if it works. If the new graphics card work, then your old one is broken :)

If it is the card, then why does it do it even when disconnected from the pc? I will try another monitor, but I think it may just be the monitor.

Because most monitors needs an input signal to turn on or else they are put in power save mode (gets turned off automatically).
