It may be your power settings. Go to Vista's control panel, click on power options, and click on the power plan you're using. At this point you can see that there are separate power settings for the laptop when you're on battery and for when you're plugged in. It's possible the screen brightness is turned all the way down for the plugged in setting, while the brightness for the on battery setting is set normally.

Assuming this is indeed the problem, changing the screen brightness for the plugged in setting may solve your dilemma.

Let us know if this works for you.

The mother of Julian Assange, the Wikileaks founder, has said that she is deeply distressed after Interpol issued "Red Notice" alert for her son.
Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, has been added to Interpol's 'Wanted' list over alleged sex crimes in Sweden.

Christine Assange said she was "reacting as any mother would" and was concerned about her son's wellbeing.

Mr Assange, who is Australian, is wanted by Interpol in relation to two rape charges issued by the Swedish police. His whereabouts are not known.

The notice to assist in his arrest comes in the midst of the release of thousands of confidential US diplomatic cables on the Wikileaks website.
