I recently moved & and am now utilizing a Wi-Fi connection for my Internet usage. Since the move my 4 year old Sony Vaio notebook computer has been seriously "on the frits" especially when it comes to video download/buffering speeds. A 1 minute video snippet on YouTube for instance can take up to 8 minutes to play through stopping every 3 seconds to continue buffering to only restart and play another 3 seconds of content. Of course, once the video has painstakingly completed the 1st time I can replay it and it runs properly unless I move on to another video and come back to it. Then it's the same process all over again.
I have installed new MacAfee virus protection software, scanned my computer dozens of times for optimization, outdated drivers, registry fixes, disc space free up, defrags, utilized freeware & trial versions of other software packages to try & resolve this extremely frustrating issue. I even paid a "problem solving service" used by Sony and, for 2 days they trouble shooted issues including poor/slow performance and were unable to identify/resolve the issue(s). I'm computer savvy at all & am concerned that my "tweaking" various aspects/settings on my computer and OS (Vista for Business) could do more harm than good. However, I feel obsessed with returning my notebook performance to where it was before or even better given all the time & resources I have spent trying to identify & fix the problem. Can you say PC Optimization O -C - D ?!!
Finally, I even called the support desk for my Wi-Fi connection I am using at this hotel & they found they network working fine.
What should I do next? Is it the notebook or the connection medium or both and how can I tell? Sometimes even opening up my browser page in Firefox, Chrome or IE takes eons to complete.
ANY HELPFUL ADVISE WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!
Thank you for reading this long post.
Jeff
