The best way to speed up Vista is actually to add more memory to it. Memory is cheap today and is often an understated factor in computer speed. 32-bit Vista will only support 3 GigaBytes of memory though. But that should be plenty.

The most simple way to clean your your files and hibernate file, is to use Vistas built in "Disk Cleanup" feature.

Go to the control panel and click on Performance Information and Tools. In there, click on the Open Disk Cleanup link that is on the left hand side of the window.

After selecting the drive you want to clean up, select the Hibernation File Cleaner option in the list that appears and your hibernation file will be cleaned out.

Please let me know how your complete computer setup looks like and please let me know if it always have been slow with Vista on it, even when you installed Vista for the first time.

If you upgraded Vista from another operating system, and it has been slow the whole time. I recommend that you make a fresh install of Vista. Completely reinstall it. There can be a ton of explinations for operating system slowness. A complete reinstall would solve them all. But please let me know how your computer setup looks like first.
