what can a virus do ?

i have vista -
i found that the documents were removed from the folders on the desktop & that my computer was getting slow so i ask norton what i should do ?
they said they can remove the virus from my computer for $100.
after they deleted the virus i asked norton what happen to the document in the files on the desktop?
norton said a virus can not delete a document - is this true ?
what happen to my documents?

Virus programs sometimes can remove the virus from a file, but this rarely happens now a days. It merely moves the file to a secure location on your computer, sometimes it deletes the file. The virus program usually will ask you what you want to do with the file. Try to repair, move or delete.

Be aware of anti virus programs that say they will do one thing and that you need to pay a lot of money to use. Most popular and real anti virus programs have trial periods so you can test them out before bying them.

Only download anti virus programs from trusted sources. Never download anti virus programs from torrent sites.
