Ok. so I have the strangest problem. Maybe I'm just dense and am missing something, but here goes:
I have a Toshiba laptop with a CD-R/DVD burner/reader. About 2 months after I got it, I had the problem mentioned earlier in this topic where the computer wouldn't recognized the drive at all. I found the upper and lower registry solution somewhere else, used it, and it worked just fine for quite a while.
About 6 months ago, I tried to use a couple music cd's and the drive couldn't read it. I kept getting a message that said please insert a disc into drive d and it ejected the disc. My boyfriend tried running a game disc on it but it wouldn't read it. Well, we ignored it for a month or two due to life, and I'm back to trying to figure out what's gone wrong.
I tried cleaning the lens, but that didn't work. I tried uninstalling and restarting the computer, but it didn't help.
I tried running a DVD and guess what? It loads the dvd instantly!!! Now how the heck did I go from having a drive that would read cd's, games, and dvd's, as well as burn cd's and dvd's to only being able to read dvd's??? I haven't tried to burn a dvd. We really don't use that very much. We do like to burn cd's though. Does anyone have any idea how this could possibly happen and how I can fix this? Should I just get a new drive that isn't Toshiba??
