Wireless Internet
2 posts • Page 1 of 1
Wireless InternetGood morning. Excuse the dumbness of this question. I just bought a new Dell Studio laptop. I think it is wireless enabled. It says there are networks available, but when I try to use on of them, it asks for a security password for that network. I do not have a router, is that the problem? I have an ISP for the internet, MSN, is it a question of contacting them? I guess I just don't quite understand how wireless works. Thanks for any help. Matt
Re: Wireless InternetThe wireless networks you are able to view probably belong to your neighbours and they have set a password on them so not just anyone will be able to connect and use their networks.
In order to setup your own wireless network, you need a wireless router that you plug into your internet service providers modem / outlet. You will be able to set a name to your wireless network and a password to protect it. After setting up the wireless network you need to connect to it using your computer (laptop usually) and select your network and enter the password you set up. By default most wireless routers have a wireless network already setup. You will often see it as the default name on the router with no password set.
